Together with the other two provinces in the northeast of China, Heilongjiang has long been the biggest buyer of agricultural machinery. It spent RMB 660 million (US $81.5 million) purchasing new machines in 2004 and plans to increase such investment to some US $100 million in 2005.

Exhibition Background

The annual CHIAME was first held in 2004. The last event of August 2005 covered an exhibition space of more than 35,000 square meters and was attended by 35,000 decision makers from the government and agricultural departments, contractors of agricultural machines, technicians, and other users of agricultural machinery. The 247 exhibitors represented China, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands and USA.
 
The previous two CHIAME events were promoted only on the Chinese mainland. As a result, most of the exhibitors were local Chinese companies or Sino-foreign joint ventures. This has turned out be disappointing to many professional visitors who want to see and introduce the world's latest agricultural technology and equipment. Thus, the organizers have decided to promote CHIAME 2006 around the world, expecting more participation in the fair by overseas manufacturers and suppliers of the up-to-date agricultural technology and equipment.
